Blessing and Official Opening of Dublin and the Comfort Café

Mercy College has celebrated the Blessing and Official Opening of Dublin and the Comfort Café, marking the completion of an important stage in the development of our campus.

The occasion began with a Smoking Ceremony conducted by Mr Len Yarran, acknowledging Country and setting a spirit of welcome and respect for the celebration.

Guests then gathered in Dublin, where Fr Sam led a liturgy and blessed the new building. Sr Joanne Dickson RSM officially opened Dublin by unveiling a commemorative plaque, marking an important new chapter in the continuing story of the Sisters of Mercy in Western Australia.

The celebration continued at the Comfort Café, where Fr Sam blessed the new space before Sr Joanne unveiled a second plaque and officially declared the café open. Guests then shared afternoon tea in the tradition of Catherine McAuley, whose welcoming hospitality remains central to the Mercy story.

The College was honoured to welcome several Sisters of Mercy, together with students, staff, parents, representatives from Catholic Education Western Australia and members of the wider community. The occasion also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the architects, builders and everyone whose work helped bring these outstanding new facilities to life.

Dublin and the Comfort Café provide contemporary new spaces for learning, gathering and hospitality. Their opening is a proud milestone for Mercy College and a lasting reflection of our enduring Mercy legacy.

Stage 9B Update

We are thrilled to share an update of stage 9B with a digital fly-through.

This video showcases the anticipated development ahead for our school, enjoy the view!

SEPTEMBER 2025

Progress continues at an impressive pace across both of our building sites, with several key milestones achieved in recent weeks.

At the Food, Textiles, and Media building, the installation of services in the roof has been ongoing and is nearing completion. Window and door frame installation is almost finished, and wall rendering has now been finalised. Work on the fridge and freezer room is also progressing well.

On the canteen site, the pergola structure is currently being painted, and all electrical cabling to support the installation of louvres has been completed. The frames, doors, and glass have been fully installed, paving the way for the upcoming installation of the lotus doors. It has also been exciting to see tiling commence in the food preparation area, with strong progress being made.

Earlier this week, we welcomed members of the Advisory Council for a site visit. They enjoyed the opportunity to walk through the new facilities and see the development firsthand.

We look forward to sharing more updates as these projects continue to take shape!

Library Update

January 2024

Library Refit

The tender phase and signing of contract documentation occurred during the school holidays. The Building Company has constructed the builders’ yard and begun the task of demolition of the internal space of the building that will be redesigned as our Library and Information Technology area. Loose furniture has been ordered which will complement the beautiful space. We are very excited to see the finished project which is estimated to take 11 weeks to completion.

Stage 9B

Stage 9B has made significant progress since last year and is currently in the pre tender phase. This major development project will see a contemporary and beautifully designed Cafeteria centrally placed between the Primary and Secondary. In addition, new buildings are being constructed for our Home Economics and Media Learning Areas. It is anticipated that the College will proceed to tender in March with a start date in June, 2024. Coming soon will be some images to share with you the final design concept of this stage of development.

November 2023

The planning for Stage 9B is currently underway with an anticipated tender date for March, 2024. We are currently in the final planning stage of the brief as we enter into contract documentation.

The final costing from the Quantity Surveyor for the Library refit (Stage 9A) has been completed, and approval to proceed to tender has been received from CEWA. The College is currently entering the tender phase for the Library refit which will take approximately 2-3 weeks. The anticipated start date for the library works is approximately mid-December with estimated completion within 11 weeks from that date. The entry design of the Library is below, some minor changes has occurred since the drawing concept and the entry to the building will be redesigned with Stage 9B. Many thanks to our Library and IT Teams who have been generous in their time with consultation and providing feedback. Watch this space for exciting progress updates!
