Strategic Direction

Since its inception, Mercy College has developed into a large educational institution with capital facilities that enable us to offer a vibrant K – 12 curriculum.

Today we exist proudly as a Catholic school that reflects the charism of the Sisters of Mercy, upon whose vision the school began in Koondoola in 1972. At Mercy College, we celebrate and give witness to the Gospel values of justice, compassion, service, excellence and dignity. This provides a foundation upon which a faith community of compassion, understanding and tolerance is established and nurtured.

Our Strategic Intents

Our Strategic Intents reflect our commitment to continuous improvement and renewal, grounded in the principles of the Quality Catholic Education Framework. These priorities shape our Annual School Improvement Plan and guide our mission to nurture faith, learning, and community across our K–12 College.

Our Strategic Intents are presented under the four pillars of the Quality Catholic Education Framework: Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship.

Catholic Identity

We are committed to nurturing a vibrant Catholic identity that is visible, authentic, and deeply rooted in our Mercy heritage.

  • Faith Story: Deepen understanding of the College’s faith story, inspired by Catherine McAuley, the Sisters of Mercy, and our College Patrons.
  • Synodality: Foster a spirit of shared mission through the implementation of the College Ministry Plan.
  • Faith Practices: Provide engaging and meaningful experiences of Catholic traditions, rituals, and celebrations for students, staff, and families.
  • Service & Outreach: Cultivate a culture of compassion and action through student-led service initiatives.

Education

We aim to inspire futures together by delivering high-quality, inclusive, and future-focused learning experiences.

  • Vision for Learning: Embed our College Vision for Learning as the foundation for best practice in teaching and learning.
  • Early Learning Philosophy: Ensure our philosophy guides pedagogy in the early years, promoting curiosity and foundational growth.
  • High Expectations: Build a culture of excellence and academic rigour through evidence-informed practice and professional growth.

Community

We strive to build a safe, inclusive, and connected school community where every person feels valued.

  • Wellbeing Philosophy: Implement strategies that support student wellbeing and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Parent Engagement: Expand opportunities for families to engage in College life and their children’s learning journey.
  • Community Partnerships: Strengthen relationships with local organisations and service providers.
  • Student Standards: Promote high expectations in student behaviour, presentation, and personal responsibility.

Stewardship

We are committed to responsible stewardship of resources, facilities, and the environment.

  • Financial Management: Ensure prudent budgeting and resource allocation to support College priorities.
  • Master Building Plan: Progress key infrastructure projects, including:
    • Stage 9B – Home Economics, Media Centre & Café
    • Stage 10A – Design & Technology Facilities
