ICT Acceptable Use for Students

The ICT Acceptable Use for Students provides important information regarding device use at Mercy College. It also highlights the responsibilities for both students and parents/guardians with regards to device care and behaviour.

ICT Acceptable Use for Students

Kindergaten to Year 3

The College has several trolleys of iPads shared amongst these year groups – these iPads provide early access to educational technologies encouraging children to explore technology in a fun and safe environment.

The students also have access to a range of other digital technology tools such as BeeBots, EV3s and Spheros to enhance their learning experience.

Years 4 to 6

For years 4 through to 6, Mercy college runs an iPad BYOD Program. Parents or Guardians will be required to purchase a current generation iPad for their child.

To assist parents/guardians in purchasing an iPad, Mercy College has partnered with JB HiFi to offer a simple way to purchase at educational pricing:

It is highly recommended that a protective case is purchased alongside the iPad. This will help protect the device from accidental damage.

The iPad will be set up at the start of Year 4 using the college’s iPad management system. This allows for the automatic installation of all the required apps and the most up-to date software in student learning and safety.

Years 7 to 10

The Student Device Program provides every student access to a high-quality device for educational purposes, at school and at home. It ensures a level technological playing field for all students with the flexibility of allowing students to learn at their own pace and ability. The device is equipped with an extensive suite of software and onsite ICT support is provided as part of the program. Students use their devices for research, homework, solving problems, completing team projects, email, and academic course work. At the same time, they gain valuable skills that will prepare them for the future.

The Student Device Program makes it possible for students to access a wide array of resources to support their learning; to communicate with peers and their teachers; and to become fluent in their use of the technological tools in the workplace. The program begins with Year Seven students receiving their own device and concludes at the end of Year Ten when ownership is transferred to the student.

It is a requirement that all students, whilst using their device, adhere to all Legal, CEWA and College requirements as listed in the ICT Acceptable Use for Students document (available on the College website and SEQTA Learn).

Whilst enrolled at Mercy College, students will be given access to the Office 365 suite of applications. Teachers may communicate with students using a range of tools such as email, Microsoft Teams and SEQTA. It is very important that your child familiarises themselves with these technologies as they will be used should remote learning be necessary.

Years 11 to 12

Students must bring a suitable device for learning to College. Students may continue to use their Year 7 College laptop however it must be in good working condition.

You can view/download the Year 11 to 12 Suitable Device Guidelines here:

Whilst students are enrolled at the College, students will continue to have access to Office 365 suite of apps (Word, Excel etc.).

To assist parents/guardians in purchasing a new suitable device, Mercy College has partnered with JB HiFi to offer recommended devices at educational pricing:
