LEARNING
Primary
At Mercy College, our focus is always on the children in our care. Guided by our Vision for Learning, Inspiring Futures Together, we are committed to creating a nurturing and compassionate environment where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow. We strive to embody Christ-like values in all that we do, ensuring that our actions reflect kindness, empathy, and care for one another.
It is with great joy that I welcome you to Mercy College, a community where faith, learning, and belonging come together to nurture young minds for the future. I am privileged to lead a committed team of primary educators who foster a love of learning while celebrating each child’s unique gifts and talents.
At the heart of our community is our motto, “Love in Action”. Inspired by Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy, we strive to “do ordinary things extraordinarily well” and to be “shining lamps, giving light to all around us.” This is reflected in the way we care for one another, serve others, and act with kindness, justice, and compassion. Our students learn that Love in Action is not just a motto, but a way of life that shapes who they are as learners and people.
Our Vision for Learning, “Inspiring Futures Together”, guides our approach to teaching and learning. Grounded in our faith and shaped by our pillars of Commitment, Connection, and Discovery, we are committed to walking alongside each child to provide an engaging, supportive, and empowering education. Throughout the primary years, we intentionally nurture each student’s growth and God-given potential. Play-based and enquiry-based learning in the Early Years builds strong foundations through curiosity and exploration, while evidence-based teaching ensures high expectations, confidence, and independence as student’s progress.
As Head of Primary, I work closely with the College Principal, Head of Secondary, and Executive Leadership Team to support a cohesive learning journey from Kindergarten to Year 12. Together, we prioritise continuity, consistency, and strong transitions to help students flourish at every stage. Education at Mercy College extends well beyond academics; we are dedicated to developing the whole child in a safe, inclusive, and faith-filled environment where every student feels valued and supported. We recognise the vital role of parents and caregivers, and value strong partnerships grounded in open communication and collaboration. Together, we create a positive, enriching, and faith-driven learning experience that nurtures each child’s growth and potential.
